Michael McLean is a PhD candidate in the History Department, where he studies the American West and American political thought. He is writing a dissertation on the history of Dakota Territory after the Civil War. Michael received his M.A. in history from Boston College in 2016 and his B.A. from Trinity College in 2014. His writing has appeared in Jacobin Magazine, Hartford Courant, History News Network, and We're History. Michael works closely with people on the Lakota Sioux reservations in North and South Dakota and can speak and write Lakota.
