The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences explores the way the Earth works and the processes that shape it. Our undergraduate and graduate programs prepare students for careers in the geosciences and related fields and to be scientifically literate citizens of planet Earth, well prepared to address the challenges and opportunities of maintaining a habitable planet for future generations.

Research Concentrations

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers students opportunities to work with faculty on research in 10 different concentrations.

Undergraduate Majors & Minors

The department offers majors in Environmental Geoscience and Geological Sciences, and minors in Environmental Studies and Geological Sciences.

Graduate Programs

The department offers courses and research programs leading to an M.S. in Geology or Geophysics, a Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences, as well as joint M.S./M.B.A. and M.A.T. degrees.
