Ben Sloat is an interdisciplinary artist working in media such as photography, painting, and sculptural installation. Often he uses cultural imagery from his multi-racial Asian background as source material for new artistic and cultural forms. A 2009 Faculty Fulbright Scholar to Taiwan, he documented the effects of globalization and gentrification on a rural town in southern Taiwan. He has written about photography for magazines such as Aperture and Exposure, and was a contributor to the book 30 Second Photography, published in the UK in 2014. Recent exhibitions include those at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen; MFA Boston; Dublin City Gallery/The Hugh Lane, The Queens Museum, American Cultural Center in Taipei, and the Peabody Essex Museum.
