Carina Katigbak

Biography

Dr. Carina Katigbak is an Assistant Professor who holds a PhD and MS as an Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from New York University. Her professional work in caring for cardiovascular patients informs her current research aimed at improving modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease among at-risk immigrant groups. Her dissertation study was funded by the Sigma Theta Tau International Doris Bloch Research Award to examine community health workers’ roles in promoting heart healthy behaviors among Filipino American immigrants with hypertension in New York City. In Boston, she has partnered with key organizations to employ community engaged research approaches with older Chinese American immigrants on studies focused on tobacco use, and physical activity. Her work is funded through the Boston College Institute on Aging, and a National Institute on Aging P30 pilot grant with the Boston Roybal Center for Active Lifestyle Interventions.
