NORFOLK, Va. -- The Boston College women's sailing team captured the 2018 Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women's National Championship.  The national championship was held on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Va. and hosted by Old Dominion.

The Eagles bested 18 other collegiate boats en route to the championship.  It was the third women's national title in program history and the first since 2012.  BC also captured the National Championship in 2008.

"I'm proud of how the team prepared for this event all year and how well they handled the pressure of the event,'' said head coach Greg Wilkinson. "They fought for every point throughout the regatta. I consider myself lucky to be a part of this incredible team.''

Boston College posted 246 points, besting the College of Charleston, who also finished with 246 points and placed second. The Eagles won the tiebreaker with COC to capture the championship. Hobart & Smith placed third with 258 points.

The Eagles' team of Isabella Loosbrock and Emma Perry placed seventh in the A Division with 154 points. The duo won the 14th race, and earned second place finishes in the third, 10th, and 13th races, while notching a fourth-place finish in the 15th race.

The B Division team of Sophia Reineke, Megan Bamford and Lily McGrath placed second with 92 points, behind Yale (90 points).  The three BC sailors finished first in three races, second place twice, and third in three races.

Following the National Championship regatta, Boston College senior Isabella Loosbrock and sophomore Sophia Reineke were named to the 2018 ICSA All-American Skippers team.

The Team Race National Championship will start tomorrow and run through May 28.  The Coed National Championship will run from May 29-June 1.
