BC HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Logan Hoggarth was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and his second home run of the season.
  • Junior Nick Sciortino belted his second home run of the year on a 3-for-5 day with two RBIs and a double. In the last three games, he is 5-for-11 with five runs and three RBIs.
  • Freshman Gian Martellini knocked his second homer of the year to round out the BC long balls and extend his career-long hit streak to four games.
  • Sophomore Anthony Maselli tallied a career-high two hits on a 2-for-3 day with an RBI. He has a hit in the last three games played.
  • Freshman Sean Hughes picked up his first career win, throwing a scoreless fifth, allowing one hit and striking out two.
  • Pitchers freshmen Thomas Lane, Zach Stromberg, Hughes, John Witkowski, senior Jesse Adams and sophomore Brian Rapp combined for eight scoreless innings. They allowed just five hits, walked two and struck out eight. Stromberg retired all six batters he faced in the third and fourth.

KEY PLAYS
  • BC broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning and did not look back, tallying scores in the fifth, sixth and seventh.
  • The BC pitching staff held the Huskies scoreless for eight innings to seal the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the fourth as they loaded the bases with one down on singles by junior Michael Strem and senior Joe Cronin and an error. Hoggarth plated Strem with a sac fly to right.
  • BC added a run in the fifth to take a three-run lead. Maselli led off with a single back at the pitcher. Freshman Dominic Hardaway moved him to second with a sac bunt and sophomore Jake Palomaki got him to third with a chopper to first. Sciortino drove him in with a double off the wall in left center.
  • BC added two in the sixth with reliever RHP Will Jahn in. Martellini belted a solo shot over the right field fence with one down in the inning. With two outs, Adams doubled to right center and Maselli drove him in with a single up the middle. Hardaway followed with another hit and stole second but a strikeout ended the inning.
  • The Eagles broke open the game in the seventh with four runs off two homers. Sciortino led off with a bomb to right to make it 5-0. With one down, Cronin drew the first walk of the game for either team. Martellini was hit by a pitch to put two on for Hoggarth. He belted one over the left-field fence to give BC an eight-run lead.
  • The Huskies got on the board in the ninth off redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh. With one down, he issued a four-pitch walk to Josh Treff before getting a grounder to second for the second out. After another walk to put two on, Mason Koppens singled through the right side to plate NU's first run. Keith Kelly followed with a base hit up the middle to make it an 8-2 game. Skogsbergh got a line out to first to end the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Boston College has won all three meeting between the Eagles and the Huskies in the Beanpot title games, also winning the championship in 1992 and 2004.
  • The Eagles won back-to-back Beanpot titles for the fourth time in program history (1992-93, 2003-04, 2010-11, 2015-16).
  • BC is now 35-16-1 in Beanpot history, which dates back to 1990.
  • The three home runs by the Eagles were the most in a game on the year. The last time they hit at least that many in a game was when they belted four in an 11-1 win against Massachusetts on April 1, 2015. The game was also played in Northborough, Mass.Check Presentation
  • The Eagles tallied at least 10 hits for the 14th time in 2016. They are 11-3 in those games.
  • BC did not make an error for the 11th time this season. They are 7-4 in those games.

OF NOTE
Between the consolation game and the championship game, the four head coaches and the owners of the New England Baseball Complex presented John and Nancy Frates, Pete's parents, with a $5,000 check for the Frates ALS Research and Support Fund. All the ticket proceeds from the 2016 Beanpot were also donated to the charity.
