CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Former Boston College women's hockey captain Alex Carpenter is one of four nominees for Best Female Athlete at the 2016 Globies. Nominees were announced today by the Boston Globe, which hosts the awards show.
 
Carpenter won the first-ever Best Female Athlete award in 2015 at the inaugural Globies ceremony, and was presented with the award by Boston Bruins legend Ray Bourque.
 
Voting in all 14 categories is now open at the Globies website, and will remain open until Monday, Aug. 29. | VOTE NOW
 
The 2016 awards will be held on Monday, Nov. 14, at House of Blues Boston.
 
Carpenter is nominated with former Northeastern women's hockey player Kendall Coyne, Boston Marathon winner Atsede Baysa and professional women's hockey player Hilary Knight.
 
In 2015-16, Carpenter led the NCAA in scoring with a program-record 88 points. She also paced the country with a program-record 45 assists and also added 43 goals, second-most in the nation. Carpenter was the runner-up for the Patty Kazmaier Award to Coyne one year after winning it in 2015. She was also a first-team All-American and claimed her fourth first-team Hockey East All-Star honor. Carpenter graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer (278 points) and is first in career goals (133) and career assists (145).
 
Carpenter, Coyne and Knight are all teammates on the U.S. Women's National Team, which won its third straight gold medal at the 2016 IIHF World Championships in April. Carpenter scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Canada during the championship game, while Knight was named the tournament's top player.
 
Former Boston College men's hockey player Thatcher Demko is also nominated for Top College Athlete.
