Boston College Among Nation's Best in 2014-15 APR Report

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Twelve of Boston College's athletic programs recorded a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Report (APR) score in a report released by the NCAA on Wednesday.

The school's 12 perfect multi-year marks ranks third among FBS institutions, trailing Notre Dame (16) and Stanford (14). Minnesota (11) and Rice (10) round out the top five FBS programs nationally.

The BC teams with perfect APRs in this report included: men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, women's hockey, lacrosse, rowing, men's skiing, women's skiing, women's soccer, men's track and women's track.

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter, and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.

The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.

Among Atlantic Coast Conference programs that sponsor each sport, 10 of BC's teams recorded the highest APR score: men's cross country (1000), women's cross country (1000), field hockey (997), men's golf (1000), women's fencing (1000), women's golf (1000), lacrosse (1000), rowing (1000), men's track (1000) and women's track (1000).

In Hockey East, women's hockey's APR score of 1000 led all programs, while men's hockey's mark of 993 was third-best in the 12-team conference behind Merrimack (1000) and New Hampshire (995).

Twenty of the 26 Boston College programs with reported scores achieved marks of 990 or better this past year. Additionally, 21 of the Eagles' 27 teams ranked in 2013-14 maintained or increased their scores in 2014-15. The national average for all programs was 979.

Beginning with 2012-13 championships, teams were required to post a minimum 900 four-year average APR or a 930 average over the most recent two years to be eligible to participate. For 2014-15 championships, teams were required to earn a 930 four-year average APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years to participate in championships. In 2015-16 and beyond, teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships.

Last week, the NCAA recognized 12 of Boston College's teams with the APR Public Recognition Award for their APR ranking among the top 10 percent of their respective sport based on this year's APR figures. Boston College's 12 programs recognized include: men's cross country, women's cross country, women's fencing, men's golf, women's golf, women's hockey, lacrosse, rowing, men's skiing, women's skiing, men's track and women's track.
