The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC®) believes better buildings are our legacy – and the organization is transforming the way buildings are designed, built and operated. USGBC works towards their mission of market transformation for the built environment through the globally recognized Leaders in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building program. And Eagles are assuming key roles in the organization.

Sarah Buente ’09 recently transitioned into a new role in the company: Marketing & Communications Project Manager. Sarah oversees special marketing projects that support USGBC’s organizational goals, acting as a project manager for projects spanning product, media, public relations, marketing and communications. She helps develop and drive strategic plans for USGBC’s marketing initiatives and organizational offerings.

Sarah joined USGBC in 2013 and previously served as a Marketing Project Coordinator. Sarah says, “I am inspired everyday at USGBC. Knowing that I am supporting a mission that I am passionate about and am deeply committed to is uplifting. I am also surrounded by incredibly talented people on the marketing team; the creative work we collaborate to produce keeps me energized daily!”

Her enthusiasm for USGBC has spread to other Eagles: Kathleen Horan ’10 recently applied for, and obtained, Sarah's former position. Kathleen also shares a dedication to building a more sustainable global environment, a passion she credits in part to her environmental studies coursework at Boston College, and is excited to join Sarah in further supporting USGBC's mission. As a Marketing Project Coordinator, Kathleen is responsible for helping to manage marketing projects from conception to completion, translating design direction into visually compelling creative materials. She collaborates with and manages both internal and external designers, stakeholders, program liaisons and third-party vendors to create marketing collateral that elevates USGBC’s brand and values.

Together, Sarah, Kathleen and the staff at USGBC are helping to bring cost-efficient, energy-saving and healthy green buildings to all.
