What's New in the Communication Department

March 30, 2017

It has been another exciting and productive year at the Heights! I hope you will enjoy an inside look at some of the highlights in the Communication Department:

  • The department piloted a new mentoring program that pairs alumni with current seniors. We hope to expand the program in the coming years.
  • This fall we welcomed a new colleague, Assistant Professor Michael Serazio, who joined us from Fairfield University. Professor Serazio is currently teaching Intercultural Communication and will be offering some new courses in his area of research expertise, including Popular Culture Theory; Sports, Media, and Culture; and News Media & Democracy.
  • The department is gearing up for the presidential political election season, starting with a recent panel of campaign experts assembled by Assistant Professors Matthew Sienkiewicz and Michael Serazio, whose course News Media & Democracy and another special offering in political communication will focus on the presidential election season.
  • Associate Professor of the Practice Michael Keith was interviewed for an article on the 100th anniversary of public broadcasting in Smithsonian magazine.

In other news, this January marked the one-year anniversary of our move to new space in the renovated south wing of St. Mary's Hall. The department occupies two beautiful floors accessed through the O'Neill Library side of St. Mary's Hall. We have settled into our normal routine and are always ready to welcome visitors.

As always, we are eager to hear from you and learn more about your current activities. Please consider sending us an email or stopping by if you are in the area, and let us know if you might have something to offer to our mentoring program for current seniors.
