Kate Balch has served as co-chair of the GOLD Leadership Council since 2013. She initially became a member of the council upon graduation in 2008 after serving as the marketing director for her Senior Class Gift Committee. She is also an associate member of the Council for Women of Boston College.
Balch graduated summa cum laude from the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences with a major in English and a minor in French. She was inducted into BC’s Order of the Cross and Crown and its Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Balch was also designated a Dean’s Scholar and invited to join Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit honor society. She was inducted into Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society, and received the French department’s 2007–2008 Book Prize.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Balch was a member of the University Chorale for four years and served as the chorale president during her senior year. She was also a tour guide, panelist, and student coordinator for the Student Admission Program.
After graduation, Balch moved to New York City to pursue a career in journalism. She spent three years at ABC News, working the overnight shift as a production assistant and assignment editor while pursuing her master’s degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. In 2012, she joined The Huffington Post to launch its online video platform, HuffPost Live. For the past four years, she has produced live segments featuring U.S. congressmen, Academy Award-winning actors and actresses, and even Boston College professors and students. She recently traveled to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to produce 70 interviews in four days with global thought leaders, including Melinda Gates and Eric Schmidt.
