File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
File Transfer Protocol is the method web servers use to allow people to copy their content from their local machine to their section of the website.
FTP requires a client or piece of software to use. Programs such as Microsoft Windows come with a command line version of FTP. But it is much simplier to use a more graphically oriented tool. We recommend the following FTP clients:
Macromedia's Dreamweaver comes with FTP built in. So if you use Dreamweaver, you will not need a separate FTP client.
FTP is also included with Netscape Composer and Microsoft's Frontpage. But please be aware that neither Composer nor
Frontpage is supported as an HTML tool at Boston College. This is because both tools have been tested and found to be missing important features that are incorporated best in Dreamweaver.
