Pre-Workshop Preparation and Overview
Well before arrival, participants will receive via email a reading list and packet of materials that will prepare them for the week of study and scholarly exchange. If you have not already read David McCullough’s biography of Adams, please do so. This website also includes suggestions for further reading in the Readings page. Also check the John Adams website periodically for additional information.
Participants should come to Boston prepared for humid, sunny, and possibly hot weather in July. Bring a hat. Bring comfortable shoes, as there will some walking involved: at the Adams sites in Quincy; between the Massachusetts Historical Society and the Boston Public Library in the Back Bay; on the Boston Freedom Trail; and around the Massachusetts Archives property on the South Boston waterfront. Some Landmarks sites are not fully equipped to accommodate persons with mobility limitations (there are no elevators or ramps, for example). Any participant who uses a wheelchair should notify us in advance so that proper arrangements can be made wherever possible. We will travel between Boston College and the workshop sites via chartered bus.
More information about preparation will be available on the Accomodations page.
