Associate Professor (Ph.D. University of California, Santa Barbara, 1991) The neurochemistry of learning and motivation; dopamine and habit learning; parkinson's disease, schizophrenia. We examine simple learning in rats and genetic knockout mice to understand the role of dopamine activity within its various brain target sites in specific aspects of learning.

Dr. Tamir explores the instrumental functions of emotions and their role in emotion regulation. She studies whether individuals know about the instrumental functions of emotions and whether they seek such functions when they regulate their emotions. She is also interested in the ways in which individuals learn which emotions are helpful to them and when.
