Academic Regulations

summer session 2008

Examinations

Final examinations are held during the last scheduled meeting of the course.

Work Completion

All course work, independent study, readings or research should be completed by the end of the summer.

October 1, 2008 is the final date for instructors to change Summer 2008 grades and incompletes.

Grades

Pass/Fail is not an option in the summer.

The grading system used: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F (Failure), W (Withdrawal).

Grade Reports and Transcripts

Faculty submit their grades directly to the Office of Student Services so that grade reports may be mailed. Unless the University Student Services Office is requested in writing to do otherwise, grades are transferred automatically to the permanent record.

Transcripts indicating the courses taken and grades received are available from the Office of Student Services.

Changing Courses

Course changes may be made until the second scheduled class. Changes are made at the Summer Office located in McGuinn 100.

Withdrawing from Courses

To avoid failing a course, one must officially drop the course by mailing a letter to the Summer Office or completing the withdrawal form in the Summer Office in McGuinn 100 prior to the final scheduled class day. Withdrawals are not accepted by telephone. If a student withdraws from a course before the second class, no record is maintained; after that, a grade of W is recorded and no academic credit is granted.
Non-attendance does not constitute official withdrawal, nor does just telling the instructor.  A student is responsible for the tuition of a course for which he or she has registered.

Credit Variation

Some institutions require 4 credit courses in transfer. Ordinarily a student may arrange additional work that will allow the additional credit. There is a $590 charge for each additional credit. Students should note and pay for the desired number of credits at registration and should speak with the instructor regarding the additional work for the increased credit.

Policy Changes

Boston College reserves the right to change or withdraw offerings if necessary and alter fees and charges from those published on this website without prior notice.
