Faith & Justice Committee

Mission Statement
The IREPM academically and spiritually prepares women and men for professional ministry primarily in the Roman Catholic Church. At the same time we at the IREPM have always emphasized God revealed in every human being, every faith tradition, every culture, and in all aspects of God's creation. As the Social Justice Committee of the IREPM, it is our wish to promote critical fidelity to the church's rich history of Catholic Social Teaching in the faith that does justice as a foundation to our teaching, service, prayer and ministry.

The purpose of the Faith and Justice Committee is to be a resource to sustain faculty, staff and students to a lived expression and concrete embrace of the gospel love of neighbor, and mutuality and equality among peoples and cultures that brings human dignity to all. We also hope to promote careful and respectful use of the resources of creation, peaceful and just reconciliation of conflicts, and, in theological study, creative research and pastoral practice with a special concern for those on the margins of society and Church.

Specifically, the Faith and Justice Committee seeks to:

  • Raise pertinent issues of social justice and encourage methods for practical implementation in IREPM courses and programs.
  • Provide resources for IREPM sponsored volunteer opportunities with local service programs.
  • Sponsor (alone or with other BC agencies) international immersion programs, providing tools for preparation and reflection on the immersion experience.
  • Shape on-going sensitivity to the use of inclusive language for all IREPM documents, including promotional and informational materials, student papers, and liturgies.
  • Provide information for the whole IREPM community on current issues and crises of Social Justice concerns, including local, national, and international issues and avenues for helping to influence legislation and shape outcomes pertaining to these matters.
  • Highlight and provide lectures and educational opportunities relating to social justice.
  • Generally maintain, throughout the whole life and curriculum of IREPM, a commitment to the works of justice and peace, in both word and deed.
