Special Students
Students not seeking a degree, but who are interested in pursuing coursework at the graduate level, may apply for admission as special students. (Summer-only non-degree students do not need to apply for Special Student status.) Many individuals enter departments of the Graduate School as special (non-degree) students - either to explore the seriousness of their interest in studying for an advanced degree or to strengthen their credentials for possible later application for degree study.
Admission as a Special Student does not guarantee subsequent admission for degree candidacy. Individuals admitted as Special Students who subsequently wish to apply for degree study must file additional application documents and be accepted for degree study. Special students may transfer up to 12 credits (4 courses) taken at the IREPM into a degree program.
Those admitted as special students may take courses only at the IREPM. Permission to continue to take courses as a special student beyond the semester for which admission was originally gained must be obtained from the Associate Director for Academic Affairs. Please note: special student applicants are not eligible for University sponsored sources of financial aid or any financial aid that requires matriculation in a degree program.
***Note to International Applicants:
Only international applicants who are currently enrolled full-time at another U.S. institution will be considered for admission as a special student.
