TO: Prospective International Summer Session Students
FROM: Adrienne Nussbaum, Assistant Dean for International Student Services
DATE: Summer Session 2008
As you may know, the United States Government requires citizens of another country to have a visa in order to enter the United States. As you are a prospective student for the Boston College Summer Session, I would like to inform you of the latest INS regulations.
Students enrolled in a Boston College degree program for summer study, and registered for classes in all three sessions for credit are considered full-time. These students are required to obtain an I-20 from Boston College and enter the United States on a Student Visa. Students are not eligible for an I-20 if enrolled in a part-time program. Although visitors in B-1/B-2 status are not allowed to be enrolled in a “course of study,” casual, short-term, part-time coursework such as taking a single class is generally not considered to be a “course of study” and therefore may be permitted in the B category.
Medical Insurance to cover you during your stay can be purchased with your airline ticket through your travel agent. Of the three standard options, varying types of coverage are available. You are strongly advised to take advantage of these options when traveling abroad.
