About:
James J. Conn, S.J. is a native of Philadelphia and since 1974 a priest of the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus.  He is currently Ordinary Professor of Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he earned his doctorate, and serves as editor of its canon law quarterly, Periodica de re canonica.  He is a consultor of the Holy See’s Congregation for Catholic Education and Congregation for the Clergy, and a commissioner of the matrimonial section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.  During spring terms he is Visiting Professor of Canon Law in the School of Theology and Ministry at Boston College.  Prior to his assignment in Rome he was a teacher and administrator at several Jesuit-sponsored secondary schools and universities in the United States and praeses of the ecclesiastical faculty of theology at St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore and dean of its School of Theology.  He serves as a canonical advisor to episcopal conferences, diocesan bishops, and institutes of consecrated life.  A graduate of Fordham Law School, he is a member of the Bar in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
