Welcome to the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (STM)!  We are eagerly preparing for your arrival in the fall and are excited to welcome you into the STM community.  Our hope is that your time here will be both formative and fruitful for your future ministry and scholarship.

The information below provides information regarding your first days here at the STM and at Boston College.

Orientation for All New STM Students


Friday, August 25

Attendance at Orientation is required for all new degree and certificate students, who will study during the academic year. Please confirm your attendance at: stmrsvp@bc.edu before August 15.

  • 8:15–10:45 a.m. Heights Room, Corcoran Commons, Chestnut Hill Campus
    At orientation, you will sign up for an individual appointment with your faculty advisor, meet faculty and administration, and be given vital information about academics, formation, and community life.
  • 11:15 a.m. Simboli Hall, Brighton Campus
    You will meet with the faculty program director for your respective academic program.
  • 11:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided in the lobby of Simboli
    After lunch, you will meet individually with your faculty advisor in order to choose your courses and begin this important relationship.
  • 12:15 p.m. Welcome Mass (optional), STM Chapel


Other Orientation and Opening Events

BC New Graduate and Professional Student Orientation

Thursday, August 24, 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
The Office of Graduate Student Life will hold a general orientation for all new graduate students across all graduate schools at BC. This orientation is meant to complement the STM New Student Orientation. Our students find the offerings very helpful, and we strongly encourage you to attend. More information can be found here.

STM Welcome Reception for International Students

Thursday, August 24, 10:00a.m. - 12:00p.m., Simboli Hall, Room 100
All international students are encouraged to come and meet STM faculty, learn about special programs and services available at the STM, and be introduced to the staff and resources of the Theology and Ministry Library (TML).


STM New Student Welcome Night

Thursday, August 24, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Green Briar Pub
Please join your fellow incoming classmates for a social hosted by the Admissions Office. Appetizers will be provided as well as a cash bar.


Opening BBQ

Tuesday, August 29, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Faber Jesuit community
Join us to kick off the beginning of the semester!


STM Liturgy and Lunch

Thursday, August 31
We invite you to join us for the STM Opening Liturgy and Luncheon at 12:15 p.m. in St. Ignatius Church. This will be followed by a luncheon served in the lobby of Simboli. Students are invited to gather for conversation over lunch in the first-floor classrooms.


STM New Student Retreat and Social

Friday, September 8, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.
This retreat and social will be held in Simboli Hall, Room 135. The retreat will be followed by a social from 8:00-10:00p.m. at the Saint Peter Faber Jesuit community gathering space on Foster Street, across from the Brighton Campus.


International Academic Peers

IAP brings STM students into mutual relationship with classmates across language and cultural lines. Domestic Peers offer 15 minutes of after-class academic support each week by reviewing notes, clarifying the lecture, or talking about readings with International Peers in the class. All are welcome!
