Executive Director
National Conference for Catechetical Leadership

The Executive Director of NCCL is a servant-leader and active Catholic responsible for serving the membership of the organization while passionately pursuing NCCL's mission and strategic directions.

Collaboration skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and demonstrated competence in budget management and administration of a non-profit organization are necessary.

A thorough knowledge of the Church's catechetical vision as presented in pertinent documents with the ability to vision is required.

Applicant must have at least 5-7 years' leadership experience at a diocesan, eparchial or national level with an advanced degree in Theology, Catechetics, or related field.

Prior experience with diverse ecclesial populations and cultures, particularly Hispanic Catholics, successful grant-writing, and experience with technology are a plus.

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall performance of the organization in meeting the strategic goals and priorities established by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director carries out these responsibilities in accordance with policies set by the Board.


1) National Office:
The Executive Director ensures that the systems and procedures of the National Office and its staff effectively serve the goals and priorities of the organization. Specific activities include staff supervision, overseeing the direction and publication of CL brand products and NCCLonline, information management and the direction of the Conference's financial and other Conference resources, particularly as expressed in the annual budget. Working with the Treasurer, the Director assists in managing the Conference's financial reserves.

2) Membership Services:
The Executive Director ensures the development, production, marketing, and distribution of NCCL products and resources. The Director is also charged with meeting the professional development, networking and support needs of members through publications, meetings, training events, and the use of NCCL's website, social media and other web-delivered means; foremost among these are the Annual Meeting, CL Weekly, and the publication, Catechetical Leader (magazine). The Director also works with the appropriate standing and ad hoc committees responsible for advancing NCCL products and services.

3) Fund Development:
The Executive Director shares responsibility with the Board of Directors for developing the funds needed to support the organization's mission. In this regard, the Director pursues opportunities for enhancing Conference income through grants, contributions, fund-raising events, donations subsidizing NCCL activities, and entrepreneurial arrangements.

4) Liaisons with other Organizations:
When invited, the Executive Director represents NCCL with the USCCB Committee on Evangelization & Catechesis. The Director brings to this body the perspectives and concerns of the membership as reflected in the guidance of the Board of Directors. The Director also represents the organization in collaborative undertakings and liaison opportunities with other national organizations. On these occasions and at other times, the Director serves as spokesperson for the organization. The Director also seeks to keep the bishops informed of the Conference's mission and activities and secures their involvement and support as appropriate.

5) Strategic Planning:
The Executive Director assists the Board of Directors in its responsibilities for setting the strategic direction for the Conference. Once the strategic plan is established, the Director manages it in accordance with the policies and budget established by the Board. The Director shall report to the Board, in accordance with its policies, the status of the strategic plan's implementation. The Director shall also ensure that all documentation and logistical support needed for the Board's proper functioning and that of its Executive Committee are provided.

6) Expanding Stakeholders:
The Executive Director seeks opportunities for expanding stakeholders in the organization to enhance its effectiveness and influence within the catechetical community.
