Admissions

school of theology and ministry

It's not too late to apply to the School of Theology and Ministry for the Summer and Fall semesters.

While we are accepting applications for all of our programs, some funding is still available for those interested in our M.A. in Pastoral Ministry, M.Ed., and Post-Masters Certificate in Spirituality.

Student

While many of our students choose to study full-time, a significant number of our students study part-time and are able to incorporate their studies into their work and personal life. Many of our courses meet one day a week in the evenings, and we also offer limited number of online and weekend courses. And through our Summer Institute, you can earn your Master's degree in as little as five summers.

Applying is easy.

For details, visit the admissions process section of our website, or contact our admissions office and they can help facilitate your application.

M.Ed.

Post-Master's Certificate in Spirituality

If you are not ready to enter a degree program, please consider taking a course or two with us. Courses can either be taken for credit or not, and registration is easy.  We also offer a wonderful Sabbatical program for clergy, religious, and lay men and women who have been engaged full-time in Church-related ministry.

Summer Institute

  • The Summer Institute brings together leading U.S. and international theologians to provide a rich array of learning opportunities in conversation with liturgies, seminars, and off-campus activities. Courses are two weeks in length and students can enroll in as many as three courses per summer.

Special Student

  • As a special student at STM you may earn academic credit without enrolling in a degree program. Regular tuition applies and up to 15 credit hours may be taken. Should you later enroll in a degree program, the credits you earn will count toward your degree. Special Students may cross-register at other BTI schools, as long as they take one course at STM. If you are investigating theological study, completing prerequisites before applying for a degree, or want to explore a particular subject without the structure of a degree program, Special Student status may be right for you.

Continuing Education (CE) Auditor

  • Students not enrolled in a degree or certificate program are eligible to audit one course per semester at the rate of $400 per course. Students auditing courses do not receive academic credit.

Minister-in-the-Vicinity

  • Boston College STM offers a special audit rate for those currently engaged in full-time ministry (ministers, lay ecclesial ministers, priests, rabbis, and others) who live in the vicinity and who hold a theological degree.

Sabbatical

  • The School of Theology and Ministry Sabbatical Program is an opportunity for individuals to experience the gift of a season of Sabbath time steeped in the Jesuit tradition and the Roman Catholic faith. in the context of a vibrant community.  It offers a basic structure, but with the freedom and flexibility to accommodate a wide array of personal interests and desires.  Religious, clergy, and lay ecclesial ministers are eligible to apply to the STM Sabbatical, a full-time, non-degree program available during the Fall Semester.
