Supervised Practicum in Spiritual Direction

A joint offering of the STM and Jesuit Collaborative, the Supervised Practicum enables students to accompany believers on their spiritual journey in a developmental way. Through reflection, seminars, direction, and supervision, participants learn how to listen in a helpful way to the acitvity of God in the paryer of others believers and to respond in ways that deepen a person's relationship with God and his or her engagement with life and the world.
The Practicum is an intrdouction to the are of spiritual direction. Further training is required after its completion.
PRACTIUM:
During the practium students focus on the activity of God through reflection, semimars, role plays, giving and receiving spiritual direction, and small group work. Course work consists of regular attendance, reading assignments, reflection papers, verbatims for supervision sessions, and participation in group supervision.

PROGRAM DETAILS:
- Students enroll at the STM as a Special Student and take the course at Jesuit Collaborative.
- Instructors are staff members.
- Classes take place at the Jesuit Collaborative on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Classes begin in October.
- The practicum can only be taken as a pass/fail class.
- The courses duration is a full academic year and must begin in the Fall semester.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- For STM students, applicants must be in their second year of the M.Div., M.A., or M.T.S. programs. Sabbatical participants can apply by exception.
- Non degree students must demonstrate substantial maturity, as well as ministerial and academic competence.
- Students must have ongoing expereicne receiving spiritual direction.
- English proficiency. An acceptable TOEFL score is 213 or above on the computer-based exam, 550 on the paper-based exam, or 79 on the new Internet exam, if an international applicant from a non-English speaking country.
