There is something emerging among us. It has been coming to light since the days of the Second Vatican Council and requires more than lip service. However it is less the Church that is emerging than a sense of a call common to believers, a sense that all are called, and that it is vitally important in the present moment that those in pastoral ministry (ordained and lay) assess their sense of vocation. How does pastoral ministry serve discipleship? This conference brings together Edward P. Hahnenberg and Marti Jewell to assess the most important factors impressing ministry in the Church today, and those most likely to shape the future of the Church as it emerges in this new century and millennium. This day and a half long conference promises to be of great value to those in pastoral ministry, lay or ordained, and to all those who care deeply about the present and future of the community of Christ. There will be ample time for interaction and discussion among participants. Register
Marti Jewell was project director for the national study on Emerging Models of Pastoral Leadership for five years. She is now assistant professor of theology in the School of Ministry at the University of Dallas. Edward P. Hahnenberg is associate professor of theology at Xavier University, Ohio, and author of the noted volume Ministries: A Relational Approach.

Our Vocation: The Call to Discipleship Today
Presenter: Edward P. Hahnenberg
What does it mean to be called by God? How are we to understand the vocation to discipleship today? Past models and previous theologies of vocation are being stretched, as the Spirit of God calls us, individually and as a Church, to serve and celebrate the Kingdom of God in a new day.

To Call Forth Disciples: The Vocation of the Pastoral Minister
Presenter: Edward P. Hahnenberg
At the conclusion of their recent document, “Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord,” the U.S. Bishops state that “the same God who called Prisca and Aquila to work with Paul in the first century calls thousands of men and women to minister in our Church in this twenty-first century.” How are we called to be ministers of Christ in the Church? How do we call forth disciples? An interactive process will invite us to reflect together on our shared vocation to serve the mission of Christ as ministers of the church.
