In Second Temple Judaism the practice of charity towards the poor assumed a structural significance parallel to that of offering a sacrifice in the Temple.  This lecture will trace the origins of this revolutionary idea in the Bible and its groundbreaking ramifications for the development of Jewish and Christian piety and practice.  Register
