Christians have always sought to engage worldly realities in constructive ways, so as to foster human values like peace, equity, and universal prosperity.  However, the Church's understanding of its social mission has shifted and evolved over time.  In no age has a single position or model of social engagement held complete sway.  The development of modern Catholic social teachings finds many people of faith pursuing economic and political justice precisely under the banner of faith, but the terms of this engagement remain contested. This presentation will describe the major contemporary understandings of faith-based social justice, including the wide spectrum of positions on the relationship between charity and justice as well as recent challenges to "the faith that does justice."  Register
