The Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (STM) is committed to providing the opportunity for professional development and ongoing formation for today’s Church.  Every person interested in exploring the important issues of the Church today can find a workshop, lecture, or course to meet his or her interest – whether professional or personal.  Our programs are designed to fit into a variety of schedules, with day, evening, weekend, and online programs during the academic year, as well as one- or two-week courses held during the STM’s Summer Institute.

2009-2010 THEME:  BECOMING THE CHURCH WE’RE CALLED TO BE

The Second Vatican Council referred to the Church as a “pilgrim people,” a people in transition, growing personally in holiness of life and moving as a community toward the Reign of God.  This sense of always being on the move, ever on the road to conversion and transformation – together – articulates who we are as the Body of Christ in the world.

Living in a world beset by economic uncertainty, international tensions, and the plagues of poverty and suffering, we find ourselves confronted with questions that challenge our very life as a community of Christian faith:  How can we hand on our faith in a way that sustains this generation and the next?  With fewer priests, how do we understand and realize ourselves as a sacramental Church?   How can we best engage the gifts of the laity and their vocations to ministry?  How can we become the Body of Christ on a global level with diversity in the midst of unity?  How can we live out our call to serve the least ones among us?  How can we grow into spiritual maturity as disciples of Jesus, both individually and corporately?

This year the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry looks forward to gathering scholars, ecclesial ministers, students, neighbors, and all concerned to consider these questions and challenges with the hope of growing in clarity and commitment toward becoming the Church we’re called to be.  Please join us!

If you can’t join us on campus, many of these programs will be available in audio or video format approximately four weeks after the event. Past Lectures.

Boston College also offers online options for continuing education through the online enrichment program C21 Online. You may also wish to explore Front Row and Church in the 21st Century Center for many Boston College lectures presented as free streaming video.
