Certificate in Theology and Ministry

This 18-credit certificate is designed to give students access and flexibility in their coursework.  With the help of an assigned faculty advisor, students structure their courses in either of two ways: a) in a specialized area of ministry or b) across a broad range of theological and pastoral areas.  In addition to ongoing vocational development, the Certificate in Theology and Ministry provides the opportunity for spiritual enrichment and renewal.

Certificate in Hispanic Ministry

The Certificate in Hispanic Ministry is a program designed to prepare those who are already working or are interested in doing so in the context of Hispanic communities anywhere in the United States or beyond.  The Certificate is for those who do not desire a full degree or for those who have completed a graduate theology or ministry degree, but who wish to concentrate further in Hispanic ministry.  In addition to ongoing professional development, the Hispanic Ministry Certificate program provides a welcome venue for spiritual enrichment and renewal. Applicants must demonstrate a current commitment to ministry as a requirement of admission.

Hispanic Ministry Certificate students must take 18 credit hours of academic work, including the three courses designated as core requirements for this program and have sufficient knowledge of the Spanish language.  Coursework is chosen in consultation with their academic advisor.

A limited number of applicants who do not have an earned Bachelor’s degree may be admitted to the Certificate in Hispanic Ministry program under the following conditions:

  • commensurate life experience in ministry
  • fluency in English
  • a writing sample that demonstrates capability for graduate level work
  • strong letters of recommendation regarding character, commitment to the Church’s ministry, and capacity for graduate level studies
  • significant leadership potential to warrant merit-based fellowships

Certificate in Religious Education

This 18-credit certificate program is designed for people who wish to concentrate their studies in religious education.  It is particularly suited to students teaching theology/religious education in Catholic high schools or working as catechists in parishes.  With the help of an assigned advisor, students can structure their courses to attend to their curriculum needs in both theology and pedagogy.
