Recap: Our Common Home

On the heels of Pope Francis' landmark visit to the United States, U.S. Senator Edward Markey '68, J.D. '72 and papal advisor Cardinal Peter K.A. Turkson told audiences at Boston College on Monday that the pontiff's stance on the environment can help mobilize world leaders to work together to combat climate change. The Papal Visit

STM faculty members provide analysis of and perspective on Pope Francis' visit.

Thomas Groome addressed the pope's visit to Cuba in the Boston Herald, commented on the U.S. visit to Reuters and WRKO ' Morning Show,' and on the changing U.S. Church and the need for religious vocations, in an International Business Times piece that also interviewed School of Theology and Ministry students Christopher Calderon, S.J., and Sister Laura DowningJames Bretzke, S.J. discussed the pope's appeal to youth with NECN and the recent revision of annulment rules with CBS Boston. Hosffman Ospino discussed various issues related to the pope's visit and Latino Catholics: Latino USA, Religion News Service, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal.

On Laudato Si'

Pope Francis addressed the threat of environmental degradation to both the planet and the poor in his much-anticipated encyclical.  'Our Common Home,' a four-day interdisciplinary conference exploring the implications of the encyclical, will be held at BC in the fall. Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana and Senator Ed Markey will offer lectures to kick off the conference.

Faculty and Alumni Win Catholic Press Association Awards

STM Professors Tom Stegman, S.J., Hosffman Ospino, and Chris Matthews, along with a number of STM alumni, are among those honored by the Catholic Press Association of the U.S. and Canada at the organization's recent annual conference.
