Angela Amar, Ph.D., APRN, BC is an associate professor at the Connell School. She received her undergraduate and master's degrees from the Louisiana State University School of Nursing, and her doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Dr. Amar's research focuses on traumatic experiences, especially violence, mental health responses to trauma, and forensics nursing. She is interested in understanding traumatic experiences and responses in adolescent and young adult females, particularly women of color. Through this work, Dr. Amar seeks to better understand help seeking behavior associated with disclosure and reporting of interpersonal violence.

Melissa Sutherland, Ph.D., FNP-BC is an assistant professor at the Connell School of Nursing. Before joining the faculty she was practicing as a nurse practitioner at an STD clinic in New York. She completed her dissertation in May 2008 at the University of Virginia. Her dissertation was titled "Dissociation, violence and risk reducing behaviors in women" and examined lifetime violence, dissociative experiences and safer sex practices in a sample of women. She worked as a maternal/child nurse and a community health nurse before pursuing her master's in community health nursing. Dr. Sutherland's research focuses on violence against women and the health consequences of the violence.

Tania Strout is a second year Ph.D. student and fellow at the Connell School of Nursing at Boston College. She received her B.S. in nursing at the University of Southern Maine and M.S. in health policy and management from the Muskie School of Public Service, University of Southern Maine. She is the associate director of research for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, and her dissertation research will focus on the development of an agitation rating scale for use with mental health patients in the emergency department.

Somatra Simpson is the study coordinator for the help seeking behaviors research team. In 2009, she received her B.A. in psychology from Boston College, with a pre-med and neuropsychology concentration and a minor in international studies. Somatra plans to pursue a career in the psychiatry/medical field in the near future.

Krystal Astwood is an undergraduate in the school of Arts and Sciences class of 2010. She is pre-law with a major in philosophy. After graduating, Krystal plans to attend graduate school for higher education.

Sania Beckford is an undergraduate student in the Connell School of Nursing, class of 2011. She has an interest in women's health and maternity/childbearing.

Maria Cardiello is an undergraduate student in the Connell School of Nursing, class of 2011. She is interested in the field of women's health and would like to pursue maternal-child nursing upon graduation.

Erin Kesler is an undergraduate student in the Connell School of Nursing. In addition to the Reporting Dating Violence study, she is also working with Dr. Amar on another project focused on bystander intervention, to better prevent situations of potential domestic violence and rape.

Djerica Lamousnery is an undergraduate student in the Connell School of Nursing, class of 2011. She has a broad interest in the various fields of nursing and is preparing for a semester abroad in Cape Town, South Africa.

Darling Rameau is an undergraduate in the Connell School of Nursing, class of 2011 and an African and African Diaspora Studies minor. She has a broad interest in the various fields of nursing. Darling Rameau is a co-chaplain of the Multi-Cultural Christian Fellowship ministry and an active member of Voices of Imani.

Nicole Tuccinardi is an undergraduate student in the Connell School of Nursing at Boston College. She works as an assistant for the research team. She is interested in the study of psychology and hopes to receive her D.N.P. from Boston College.

Alexandra Weishaupt is an undergraduate student in the school of Arts and Sciences class of 2010. She is a communications major and a film studies minor as well as the Captain of the Boston College Cheerleading Team.
