Eating Disorders and Treatment ResponseThe National Institute of Mental Health estimates that up to 3.7 percent of all women struggle with Anorexia Nervosa at some point in their life. This number appears small compared to the portrayal of eating disorders in today's media, literature, and society. Eating disorders are serious disorders associated with life-threatening medical complications and significant chronicity.  Recent years have seen an increase in awareness of eating disorders. With this increase in awareness has come an increase in research and a better understanding of the etiological factors as well as new treatment approaches.

The Eating Disorders Research Team of Boston College’s Connell School of Nursing consists of faculty and students ranging from the undergraduate level to the doctoral level whose line of study focuses on eating disorders. This team is headed by Dr. Barbara Wolfe who has been conducting research and research on eating disorders for the past 15 years.

This team is currently conducting several important research studies aimed at learning more about the biobehavioral changes in individuals struggling with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder.

We are currently recruiting participants for the research studies featured on this site. Participation helps to improve the quality of care, treatment, and understanding of persons struggling with an eating disorder.
