master's and post-master's programs

APPLICATION DEADLINES

  • Master's program applicants who are registered nurses (RNs) will be evaluated on a rolling basis (not including nurse anesthesia specialty). Average response time for applications is one month.
  • Applications for Master's Entry Route must be received by November 1.
  • Applications for the Nurse Anesthesia Specialty must be received by September 15.

Application Requirements

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's program application and fee
  • Baccalaureate from a nationally accredited (NLN or CCNE) program with a major in nursing*
  • Official transcripts of all prior post-secondary academic work
  • An undergraduate scholastic average of B or better
  • Three letters of recommendation pertaining to academic ability and professional competency
  • Statement of goals, pertaining to career objectives and how your intended specialty program will help you attain them
  • A completed undergraduate course in statistics
  • A current RN license to practice nursing*

MASTER'S ENTRY ROUTES OF ENTRY (individuals who are not RN's)
  • Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university
  • Official transcripts from previous post-secondary education
  • Goal Statement
  • Three letters of reference
  • Official GRE scores (taken within last five years)
  • Evidence of the Following Courses (on undergraduate/graduate transcript):

    • Two (2) Social Sciences (Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Economics, Political Science)
      One from each discipline or two from the same discipline will be accepted
    • Introductory or higher level Statistics course

  • Evidence of the Following Courses (taken within last 5 years):

    • Anatomy & Physiology I and II w/Lab
      If taught separately, then, one semester of Anatomy and one semester of Physiology
    • Life Science Chemistry w/Lab or Organic Chemistry w/Lab
      General Chemistry will not be accepted
    • Microbiology w/Lab

NURSE ANESTHESIA SPECIALTY
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited program
  • Official transcripts from previous post-secondary education
  • Goal Statement
  • Three letters of reference
  • Official GRE scores (taken within the last five years)
  • Evidence of successful completion of a 3-credit statistics course
  • Minimum of 1 year of critical care experience
  • Current ACLS and PALS certification
  • Personal interview


MS/MBA OPTION

Applicants to the joint MS/MBA program must complete applications for and be admitted to both the Graduate School of Nursing and the Graduate School of Management.

RN/MS OPTION

Applicants must have an associate degree or diploma in nursing and a RN license in Massachusetts. See the Master's Program requirements above for additional required documents.

MS/PHD OPTION

Applicants should apply directly to the Ph.D program and include in the goal statement their goals related to advanced practice nursing as well as doctoral preparation in nursing.

MS COMPLETION OPTION

Nurse Practitioners who wish to obtain a Master's degree should provide evidence of completion of a nurse practitioner certificate program and national certification along with their application.

ADDITIONAL SPECIALTY CONCENTRATION

The Additional Specialty Concentration allows nurses with a Master's degree in nursing to obtain preparation in a clinical specialty other than the one in which they hold certification. The plan of study is individualized based on the applicant's background and intended new area of specialization.
