Sandra Mott is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Boston College and
has been a faculty member for over 20 years as a member of the Maternal
Child Health Department. She completed her undergraduate work in Illinois,
received her Masters degree from Boston College, and is completing her
doctoral dissertation at University of Rhode Island. Her major teaching
responsibilities are with the undergraduate students for both theory and
clinical courses covering the entire scope of child health nursing. She was the senior editor and contributor for a major pediatric text that
emphasized the importance of collaborating with family members in the
planning and providing of care for children. Her current research focus centers
on how parents perceive their life and the adjustments and adaptation
they make when their child has a complex cardiac disease (Hypoplastic
Left Heart Syndrome) that requires multiple hospitalization and intense
monitoring and care during the intervals at home. Since children are now
living with this condition which adds a real caregiving burden to parents,
her goal is to discover how parents address the many changes that are
required to be both the parent and caregiver for this complex child. She
is an active member of several professional organizations and a member
of the research committee for both the Society of Pediatric Nurses and
the Northeast Pediatric Cardiology Nurses Association.
