Margaret Laccetti is an Oncology clinical nurse specialist,
with a strong practice interest in adults with breast, prostate and lymphatic
cancers. Dr. Laccetti earned her PhD in nursing, focusing on quality of
life in cancer patients, in 2003 from UMass Worcester/Amherst. Her dissertation
explored the use of language patterns as they reflected or impacted quality
of life. She teaches Adult Growth and Development, and acute care adult
health content. Her research interests include investigation and use of
expressive writing and language use with selected groups of cancer patients;
use of expressive writing with stage 4 breast cancer patients, and how choices
of language (or words) reflect experiences with the disease; quality of
life in cancer patients and families; the nursing needs of spouses of prostate
cancer patients; intuition and nursing. Dr. Laccetti is a member of the
Oncology Nursing Society and the International Psycho-Oncology Society.
research interests
Investigation and use of expressive writing and language use in selected groups of cancer patients and their families; use of expressive writing with stage 4 breast cancer patients, and how choices of language (or word use) reflect experiences with the disease and quality of life; quality of life in cancer patients and families; using and examining the processes of expressive writing and cognitive restructuring to enhance quality of life and change behaviors in patients and families facing terminal illness; the nursing needs of spouses of patients with prostate cancer; intuition and nursing; and investigating and using the Amherst writing model to explore self silencing and facilitate advocacy behaviors in nursing students and new nurses.
