A  graduate of Boston College’s first class of the women’s and pediatric primary health care nurse clinicians, Joellen has been a pioneer in the evolution of the NP role. Since graduation Joellen has created a student health service at a new campus for Roger Williams College using a nursing model, practiced for 5 years at the University of Connecticut Student Health Services Women’s Clinic—an NP model, helped create the nurse-managed clinic for seniors in the community of Mansfield, CT, practiced for 16 years at a nurse-managed women’s reproductive health clinic, and currently practices at a community health center and teaches a prenatal class at a homeless shelter. She has been a mentor to countless NP students over nearly 30 years and to clinical preceptors, who are the heart and soul of our NP programs.
