Mary Aruda is a graduate of the Cornell-New York Hospital School of Nursing, and began her nursing career in the United States Public Health Service, Indian Health Branch, serving in Tuba City, Arizona.  She completed her master’s work at Boston University, Pediatric Primary Care Program.  Dr. Aruda received her PhD in Nursing and Health Promotion from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2002, where her dissertation research focused on the motivation for unprotected sexual activity for adolescent females measured at the time of a request for a pregnancy test. Dr. Aruda is a pediatric nurse practitioner with over twenty years of clinical experience in Adolescent Health, at the Children’s Hospital Boston, where she also was nursing faculty for the Maternal Child Health Bureau’s, Leadership Education in Adolescent Health multidisciplinary training program. She currently is an Assistant Professor in Nursing in the Maternal Child Health department of the Connell School of Nursing at Boston College. Nationally, she serves on the Content Expert Panel for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners for the American Nurses Credentialing Center and serves as a HRSA for the Maternal Child Health Bureau. Dr. Aruda continues a long standing relationship as an educational consultant with Boston's anti-poverty agency, Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), Boston Family Planning Program.  She is the nurse consultant and researcher for the Boston College Campus School. Current research interests include health promotion, adolescent health, adolescent sexuality, and families and children with special health care needs.
