Are you interested in taking a graduate-level class at the Connell School of Nursing, but aren't interested (or ready) to enroll in a degree program?

If you have a bachelor's degree in nursing, there are a number of graduate nursing courses are available for you to take. Here's the information you need to take advantage of this opportunity:



To apply for admission to the special student/non degree program, you must:

  • Hold a bachelor of science in nursing degree.
  • Possess a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Complete the online application form.
  • Submit a non-refundable fee of $40, which can be submitted online after submitting the online application, or via check or money order (with the appropriate cover sheet), made payable to Boston College.
  • Request official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended, and arrange to have submitted with an attached cover sheet. Please note that all transcripts must be official and mailed directly from the institution to our Application Processing Center. If the institution does not accept the cover page, you must ensure that the name on your transcript exactly matches the name on your application. It is the applicant's responsibility to contact the Graduate Office (617-552-4928) if an academic transcript has been submitted under a different last name and does not have a cover page.


Course Restrictions and guidelines

Certain restrictions apply to courses available to you as a special student/non degree student:

  • Professional course work associated with clinical practicums of nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist certification is reserved for degree students in these programs.
  • Select courses are restricted each semester in order to maintain class size.
  • No more than two (2) three (3) credit courses for a total of six (6) credits can be applied towards a degree upon program admission
  • Permission to continue taking courses as a special student/non degree must be cleared each semester through the office of graduate programs in the Connell School.
  • Admission as a special student/non degree does not guarantee subsequent admission into a graduate degree program in nursing. If after admission as a special student/non degree, you wish to apply for admission as a matriculated degree candidate, you must complete the formal application process. No special dispensation will be given to applicants with special student status.

  • NURS 7416 Ethical Issues in Advanced Practice Nursing
  • NURS 7520 Research Methods for Advanced Practice Nursing
  • NURS 7672 Advanced Pathophysiology Across the Life Span
  • Elective courses
