Dr. Rosanna DeMarco

The Institute of Liberal Arts (ILA) has awarded  a major grant to Dr. Rosanna DeMarco for a project entitled: An Interdisciplinary, Student-Driven HIV Prevention Project in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

This is the first major grant from ILA that has been awarded to a professor in the Connell School of Nursing. Dr. DeMarco and Dr. Thanh Tran from the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work will lead a group of six students to Ho Chi Minh City to disseminate Dr. DeMarco's HIV Prevention Intervention Program called Sistah Powah that includes the film Women's Voices Women's Lives that she co-produced and has been translated in Vietnamese language. Students participating in the program will be from both the Connell School of Nursing and the College of Arts and Sciences.
The ILA is dedicated to fostering innovative programs in the liberal arts that will enhance the intellectual life of students and faculty and lead to new ways of understanding the world we live in. The Institute calls for major grant proposals twice a year and funds projects conceived by interdisciplinary teams of faculty and dedicated to thinking imaginatively about the liberal arts and the contemporary university. The Institute also organizes seminars and symposia that bring faculty from different disciplines together around shared topics of interest. The Institute collaborates with existing programs and centers, forging connections across campus and supporting scholarship that bridges the humanities and other disciplines, including the professional schools.
