Karen Daley, Ph.D., MPH, RN, FAAN was one of this year's recipients of the Massachusetts Health Council (MHC) award.
According to MHC, “the Massachusetts Health Council Award has been presented annually since 1988 to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the general health and well-being of the residents of the Commonwealth. Each year a corporation is selected for the Healthiest Workplace Award – exemplifying our goal to promote healthy lifestyles and create healthier communities.
As the American Nurses Association’s new president, Karen is also known for having contracted Hepatitis C and the HIV/ AIDS virus after she was accidentally stuck by a patient needle while working in the ER. Through her advocacy efforts, the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act was signed into law, insuring that safety standards are in place to prevent other health care providers from contracting life threatening diseases.”
