Alumna named department chair
Denise Charron-Prochownik, M.S. '82, was appointed chair of the Department of Health Promotion and Development at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. A faculty member at Pittsburgh since 1994, Charron-Prochownik has been the interim chair of the department since 2010. Her Ph.D. is from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
Charron-Prochownik’s research focuses on cognitive/psychosocial factors that impact health behavior and outcomes in children and adolescents with diabetes. She is on the editorial board of the journal Pediatric Diabetes, and serves on the board of the CDC/NIH National Diabetes Education Program. In 2008, Charron-Prochownik was named a fellow of the American Academy of Nurses. In 2001, she received the Alumni Award in Nursing from Rhode Island College, where she studied as an undergraduate.
