- Where does the trip go? Trip participants will be traveling to Turkey Creek, Mississippi.
- When does the trip take place? This trip takes place during the last week of winter break. It will leave on Saturday, January 5, 2008 and return to Boston College on Saturday, January 12, 2008.
- Who is eligible to go? All members of the Boston College community are welcome to apply.
- What is the ALC Volunteer Corps? The ALC Volunteer Corps is a student-run organization under the AHANA Leadership Council of Boston College. They enthusiastically welcome people of all backgrounds to participate in volunteer projects in and around the Boston area to address various issues such as poverty, HIV?AIDS, education and disaster relief. The volunteer Corps works with other service organizations at Boston College in a combined effort to promote increased AHANA student involvement in service.
- What is the vision of the trip? The vision of this trip is to foster dialogue about service work through the creation of a diverse and unified body of students committed to making a positive contribution to the AHANA community through volunteerism.
- What do participants do there? The Volunteers Corps will participate in the continued rebuilding effort in Turkey Creek-North Gulfport area, a community composed mainly of families of color that was greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina. The Corps will be offering assistance, mutual aid, and support for residents of this Gulf Coast region.
- What is the goal of the trip? The goal is to provide short term relief to those affected by hurricane disasters and to work closely with members of the community as they rebuild their neighborhoods. During the trip participants will be working in conjunction with Turkey Creek Community Initiatives (for more information go to www.turkey-creek.org), a non-profit community development corporation engaged in the comprehensive revitalization of coastal Mississippi's low-income, historic and environmentally challenged Turkey Creek community and watershed.
