Dissertation Development Grants
SUMMER

 

Deadline   April 8 (or the following Monday, if this falls on a weekend)
Value   Approximately $2,000
Number   There are up to six grants each year
Requirements  

• Must be enrolled in Lynch School Ph.D. program
• Must have passed comprehensive examination (in exceptional cases, students may be scheduled to take examination no later than September of the year in which application is submitted). An exception is made for students for whom clinical internships are a requirement of the doctoral program. All coursework must be completed, however.
• Intent to Propose or Dissertation Proposal must be approved no later than May 31 of the year in which grant is allocated. (If Intent or Proposal has not been completed by the April 8 application deadline, a draft or outline should be attached to the application).

Procedure  

Students may nominate themselves by submitting

Original and four copies   One copy
• Letter of application outlining plans for use of the fellowship funds
• 1000-word abstract of their Intent to Propose or Dissertation Proposal
• Curriculum vitae
• Official copy of academic transcript
 

• One copy of their Intent to Propose or Dissertation Proposal
• One letter of support* from Chair of student's Dissertation Committee (submitted to applicant in an envelope with a signature on the outside of the seal)

* Letter of support from Dissertation Chair should address:
• Applicant's record of academic excellence
• Applicant's readiness to complete dissertation in timely fashion
• Quality of design of study and its appropriateness to the research question
• Quality/excellence of Proposal or Intent

Application materials should be submitted in a single package to the Office of Graduate Student Services, Campion 135, no later than 4 pm, April 8 (or the following Monday if this falls on a weekend).

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that all documents are submitted on time.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Faculty Awards Committee and winners will be announced by the Office of Graduate Student Services no later than May 15 (or the following Monday if this falls on a weekend).

Note: Students who have received a Summer Dissertation Development Grant are eligible for graduate assistantships and teaching fellowships in the following academic year.
