Ethan Mereish is a Diversity Fellow and a first-year doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at Boston College. He earned his M.A. in Counseling and Personnel Services, with an emphasis in College Student PErsonnel, from the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned his B.S. in PSychology from George Mason University. He is a student affiliate of the American Psychological Association and Division 17 ( Counseling Psychology).
Ethan joined ISPRC in the fall of 2008. He is assisting with the Summer Program and conducting research. He is currently involved with writing scholarly articles, including his recent project addressing protective factors in race-related stress experiences and mental health of African American and Black Carribbean adults. Ethan's research interests focus on the psychosocial experiences and identity development of sevreal oppressed populations. He is also interested in the socialization factors of prejudice attitudes (i.e., racist and homophobic attitudes) in various domains (e.g., intergroup relations, peer groups, education career and work).
Ethan is currently doing his clinical practicum at a local middle school, working with adolescents and co-leading an acculturation group that he developed for seventh grade boys who immigrated to the United States. He will be doing his advanced practicum at a mental health community center serving the LGBT community in Boston. His previous experiences have focused on working with college students.
In his spare time, Ethan enjoys jogging, listening to music, attending concerts, and spending time with his friends.
