Dual Degree Programs

Because of a strong interest in collaborative professional work, the Lynch School has established dual degree programs with the Boston College Law School, the Carroll School of Management, and the Institute for Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry.

Applicants interested in any of the dual programs must file two separate applications, one to the Lynch School and one to the other unit, following the guidelines, observing the application deadlines and meeting the application requirements established by each unit. Successful applicants, therefore, will receive two letters of acceptance which give them standing in each school. Students then work with their advisors to file a program of studies for the dual program.

The following dual degree programs are approved by the Lynch School and other Boston College graduate schools. Please click on the following links for further information.

  • Educational Administration, M.Ed./J.D.  (Lynch School and the Law School)
  • Curriculum & Instruction, M.Ed./J.D. (Lynch School and the Law School)
  • Higher Education, M.A./J.D. (Lynch School and the Law School)
  • Mental Health Counseling, M.A./ Pastoral Ministry, M.A. (Lynch School and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences)
  • Higher Education, M.A. /M.B.A. (Lynch School and the Carroll School of Management)
  • Fifth Year Program: accelerated master's program (for undergraduates at Boston College) which combines the Bachelor of Arts or Sciences with the Master of Arts or Master of Education in the Lynch School.  Students apply in the junior year.

Special Programs

There are a number of specialty programs that students may participate in while pursuing master’s degrees in the Lynch School of Education. The application form provides you with an opportunity to express an interest in being considered for one of these programs.  For further information about any of these programs, please visit the program's web site below. Note that certain programs require supplemental information, beyond what is required in the standard application process.

  • Donovan Urban Teacher Scholars Program
  • Teaching English Language Learners Certificate Program
  • Urban Catholic Teachers Corps Program

Non–Degree Status (Special Student Status)

Students who are not seeking a degree but who have an interest in pursuing course work at the graduate level, may apply for admission as a Non-Degree student.  While there is no guarantee of later admission to a degree program, many individuals choose Non-Degree Student Status either to explore their interest in studying for an advanced degree and/or to strengthen their credentials for possible later application for degree status. Others are interested in pursuing graduate course work for personal enrichment or professional development. Individuals interested in applying as a Non-Degree student need only submit the Application Form and transcripts of undergraduate and/or graduate degrees.  Although there is no limit on the number of courses Non-Degree students may take, no more than four courses may be transferred into a degree program and these courses must be approved by the program advisor.

If you are interested in viewing a schedule of courses, you can visit the University Student Services website.  On the right side of the page you should see the most recent pdf version of the Schedule of Courses.  This schedule lists all courses in the University.  You can locate Lynch School courses by locating the ED and PY offerings.

If you have questions about the courses, please call the Admissions Office at 617-552-4214, and we will give you some guidance.

For more information on admission to our graduate programs, please see Applying to the Lynch School.
