Requirements for Participating in BC Spring Break

practicum

A number of students doing their full practicum in the spring wish to go on spring break when the rest of the College does, for a variety of reasons. While we discourage this practice, we are fully aware of its importance to students. Therefore, all students who wish to participate in Boston College's spring break, will follow the policy below:

  • Students will obtain the consent of their cooperating teacher and the Associate Director of Professional Practicum Experiences before December 1st of the preceding semester in order to take this week off.
  • Students will agree to report for their full practicum experience one week early.
  • Students will agree to provide twenty hours of service during the school's February break at an agency approved by the Office of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Student Services, which will maintain a list of pre-approved sites; students may identify an alternate placement for approval if they wish.
  • Students will submit a written proposal, including a statement from the specific agency, outlining what service they will be providing during the February break. This proposal must be submitted before fall semester finals begin.
  • The Office of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Student Services retains the right to deny students the right to participate in Boston College's spring break if they fail to honor their obligations for service or their full practicum.

This policy will go into effect on November 3, 2002 and remain in effect until it is modified. All questions should be directed to the Office of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Student Services, Campion Hall 104.
