Boston College LSOE offers a certificate in Teaching English Language Learners. Candidates should be working toward a licensure in an education field (early childhood, elementary, secondary, reading and others). This program is designed to prepare mainstream teachers to work with bilingual learners/English Language Learners in their mainstream classroom settings. The certificate requires two courses and a free non-credit workshop taken during one of the field experiences. In addition, candidates need to do a field experience in a classroom that includes bilingual learners.
Candidates interested in also obtaining an ESL licensure should take the ESL MTEL test and apply individually to the Mass Department of Education. For further information contact Dr. Mariela Paez (paezma@bc.edu), Lynch School of Education.
