Residency Requirement

ph.d. program, curriculum & instruction

To ensure the quality of your educational experience, you are required to study on a full-time basis for at least one academic year while completing your coursework. In this way, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the field and explore potential career specializations. The Residency Form must be filed with the Program of Study to the Department Chair.

For residency purposes, there are five options for Lynch School students from which you may choose:

  • Take three or four graduate level courses for two consecutive semesters (fall and spring)

  • Take two graduate level courses and have a full time assistantship for two consecutive semesters (fall and spring)

  • Fulfill a minimum of three years of full-time doctoral study

  • Participate in all available academic and professional activities associated with the Professional School Administration Program (psap)

  • Take two graduate level courses per semester for one academic year while employed half time or more in a professional position relevant to the intended area of doctoral study. At least one course must be seminar-based, linking theory, re search, and practice in the intended area of doctoral study.

You may petition the Associate Dean for exceptions to the above options, but you must have obtained prior approval for this exception from the academic advisor.
