  • Orientation: Welcoming first years (first day of class)
  • Students should begin thinking about APA presentations for the following year
  • First-year doctoral students complete a program of study
  • The second-year doctoral students welcome the first years
  • Intern applicants begin serious exploration of internship options
  • Intern applicants need to request letters of recommendation and organize materials for Director of Training to certify their readiness.
  • First-year field experiences identified and assigned to incoming cohort of doctoral students

October

  • Diversity Challenge conference here at Lynch School
  • Intern applicants begin to crystallize their choices and attend an Internship
  • Preparation Seminar with Dr. Blustein
  • Teachers College Multicultural Winter Roundtable sends out a call for papers
  • Students should initiate a meeting with their advisor

  • Some internship application deadlines occur in November

  • Spring registration begins

  • First-years send out applications for second-year practicum/sites
  • Interviews for internships begin
  • Doctoral applications due on December 15

  • Spring semester begins
  • Interviews for practicum sites begin

  • Matching day for intern applicants
  • Interview of doctoral applicants
  • Teachers college Winter Roundtable takes place in New York

March

  • Doctoral assistantship deadlines
  • AERA convention typically takes place in late March or early April
  • March 30 is the deadline for dissertations to be defended for May graduation

April

  • Third year students and faculty meet about fall comprehensives
  • Intent to propose must be approved by April 1 to be considered for nominations for dissertation fellowships
  • Second year students and faculty meet about dissertations and dissertation seminar
  • April 15 is final day for doctoral admission offers
  • Doctoral students meet with advisors to review next year's plan and to process the Annual Evaluation
  • Fall registration begins

May

  • Robing ceremony takes place on the Sunday before Commencement
  • Commencement
  • May 31 is last day for 9-month and 11-month assistantships
  • Students learn about assistantships in May
  • Students must defend final dissertation by commencement to start accruing postdoctoral hours before September (which is the date for next opportunity to defend)
  • All students who will not be registering for advanced practicum in the fall and who are providing clinical services must return their Approval for Placement form to Director of Training
  • First-year students present an overview of their First-Year Field Experience to faculty and students
  • Second-year students present a summary of a research project or proposal to faculty and students
