The Master's degree in Higher Education prepares students for entry and middle-management positions in student affairs as well as in other professional areas in colleges, universities, community colleges, and policy making organizations.
The M.A. program consists of 30 credit hours of required and elective course work and an internship.
The program can be completed in one academic year and one summer by students interested in full-time study. It is also possible to complete the program on a part-time basis.
In addition to a core of foundational studies in higher education, the program offers students the opportunity to focus on one facet of higher education. Among these are the following:
- Administration and policy analysis in higher education
- Student development and student affairs (including electives in counseling)
- International and comparative higher education
- Finance and economics of higher education
- Organizational culture and change
The MA in Higher Education Administration offers a concentration in Catholic University Leadership within the existing MA in Higher Education Administration. This concentration is designed to:
- foster an understanding of higher education administration within Catholic colleges and universities as a vocation in service to the needs of a pluralistic society and for the common good;
- engender knowledge of institutional culture, identity, and mission in Catholic colleges and universities in the context of decision-making, policy development, research, institutional advancement, intellectual culture and student life; and,
- enable graduates to bring the resources of the Catholic intellectual tradition to contribute competently and ethically to the mission of Catholic higher education by serving in a broad range of institutional leadership roles and responsibilities
Faculty advisors work with students on an individual basis to design programs of study and applied administrative experiences according to the individual student's needs, interests, and goals.
