This program prepares students to work in schools and community environments with students with mental retardation or other severe disabilities, preschool through older adolescence, in a variety of educational settings and leads to a Massachusetts licensure in Severe/Intensive Special Needs.
Students may be enrolled on a full or part-time basis.
The program emphasizes urban schools, inclusive education, collaborative teaching, disability policy, and family partnerships.
For those students employed in approved Intensive Special Needs programs, practicum requirements are individualized and may be completed within the work setting.
The Program of Studies expands on and builds upon a prerequisite education foundation through the development of competencies that are research and field-based and consistent with the highest professional standards of the field.
